La Taqueria's Watermelon Juice

Hi friends, and greetings from California! As you know, (or maybe you don't) I'm in California and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself. I'm here to tell you that I witnessed/tasted something awesome! I went to this little restaurant called La Taqueria last night, and they have watermelon juice! Well, Dole sells their own watermelon juice, which if I do say so myself, is very yummy. But, it's nothing compared to the watermelon juice at La Taqueria. It's almost like they chilled a watermelon and put it in a cup without the seeds and rind. It also has little bits of watermelon in it (which makes it that much more delicious)! It's so sweet and yummy that I could have it all day, every day! Well, I'm gonna stop rambling, but you guys (and gals) have to try it! Also, their tacos are ahhmaaziingg, but this is a blog dedicated to watermelon, so I need to stop talking about tacos. If you never get to go to La Taqueria, then I'm truly sorry because it is scrumdidlyumtious (but it isn't a Wonka's candy bar). But, there's a solution! You can go to your local grocery store and pick up - well I guess you have to pay for it too - some Dole watermelon juice!

P.S. I WILL be going back to La Taqueria before I leave this state (I won't take no for an answer)

Up, Up, and Away!

Well friends, I feel like I have let you down. I have been busy and haven't been able to post. But, now I'm here and I'm sorry to say that I'm going on vacation. I'm going to California so I won't be able to post for a week! Maybe, just maybe, I'll get to update while I'm gone. I'll miss you and I hope you'll miss me too, but don't lose hope because I WILL BE BACK!

Golden Midget Watermelon

So, I thought it was time for you guys to learn about a new type of watermelon. So, here it is! The Golden Midget Watermelon! As weird as the name sounds, it is a real watermelon. The Golden Midget was developed by Elwyn Meader and Albert Yeager in 1959. The rind of the Golden Midget - a mini weighing about 3 pounds - turns yellow when ripe. Also, the flesh is a summer-y salmon color. And good for summer is the taste which is sweet and refreshing (which is what I've heard because I've never actually had one). But maybe one day..one day...in the future..I'll get to try one...

Watermelon Dippers

Guess what I did last night! No, I didn't get attacked by a kangaroo and a goat did not eat my trousers...Still guessing? Well stop, cause I'll tell you. Last night I made Watermelon Dippers! Mix sour cream, vanilla extract, and sugar. Then, cut chunks or sticks (it say sticks in the recipe but I have no idea how to do that) of watermelon. And there you go, just dip it into the dipping sauce and eat! And let me tell ya, it tastes ahhhmaaazingg! It's like nothing I've ever had, it's like a dessert all by itself! I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, so just try it for yourself. For the exact measurements, just email me. And hopefully I can find some more delicious watermelon recipes to share with you!

New Look!

Hey there friends! As you probably noticed my blog looks a little different. That's because about 2 minutes ago I changed the look! I decided that it was time to upgrade and make it look a little more grown up...and...overall I like this one. I like the old one a lot too and I'm gonna miss it! But, it was time for a change, and on the bright side the background has watermelons on it! I was looking around at the different backgrounds to chose from and I found this one! So, I'm very excited about this new look and I hope you like it too!

Watermelon Song

Sooooo, I was looking on You Tube for some more watermelon songs and I stumbled upon this hilarious video/song. I'm not even sure if its a real song, and I'm guessing that it isn't real. The first time I heard it I started cracking up! You can't see him but there is this little boy (well he calls himself Watermelon Man in the song) singing the song and its a really bad/funny song. But, it has to do with watermelon so I decided to share it with you!
Enjoy (I know I did)!

P.S. even though this is a blog about watermelons, check out his other videos (Orange Song, Apple Song, Banana Song, Lemon Song) because I guarantee that you will laugh your butt off!

One Square Watermelon, Please

This is a clip from an episode of The Simpsons (I don't know which episode because I don't watch that show). But, I thought it was funny and everyone knows who the Simpsons are - if you don't then you live under a rock - and I posted it because it has to do with watermelon. Enjoy!

Square Watermelon!

Ok everyone, this next watermelon might freak you out or maybe it will make you really excited! Whatever it does to you get ready to hear about it. I feel that it is such a crazy watermelon that I will talk about and show you a video about it! So to cut to the chase, this watermelon is the Square Watermelon (you probably already knew that if you read the title).
Well, it all started a few years ago in Japan when some pretty awesome farmers in the Zentsuji Region found a way to make square watermelons by growing them in a glass box. The square shape was designed to make the watermelons easier to stack and store. But, don't plan on getting a square watermelon unless you are willing to pay about $80 for one!
P.S. pyramid and heart watermelons have also been developed! (MIND BLOWN!)

Anyway, I'm here now so look for my next post which will be about a specific type of watermelon. But, I can't tell you which one it is! So, keep reading and get ready to learn something awesomely awesome!

The History of Watermelon

Well here it is girls and lads, the moment you've all been waiting for! The history of watermelon! I feel a little bad, like I've mistreated you all because I have waited so long to tell you the history about the one thing we have been talking about this whole time! Well, don't worry cause you don't have to wait any longer, the history of watermelon is here!
So, enjoy!

Drum roll please!...(add your own sound effect)

Watermelon is thought to have originated in the Kalahari Desert of Africa. The first watermelon harvest occured nearly 5,000 years ago in Egypt and is depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics on walls of their ancient buildings. Watermelons were often placed in the burial tombs of kings to nourish them in ther afterlife.

From there, watermelons spread throughouot countries along the Mediterranean Sea by way of merchant ships. By the 10th century, watermelon found it's way to China, which is now the world's #1 producer of watermelons.

The 13th century found watermelon spread through the rest of Europe via the Moors.

Southern food historian, John Egerton, believes watermelon made it's way to the United States with African slaves as he states in his book "Southern Food".

The United States currently ranks fourth in worldwide production of watermelon.

Well everyone, that is the history of watermelon! It isn't that interesting but I think it's one of those things that should be known in life. All information is direclty from http://www.watermelon.org/watermelon_funfacts.asp without that website I wouldn't know any of that and I wouldn't be able to share it with you. Once again keep reading to learn more interesting things about watermelon!
